INTERVIEW WITH RÓISÍN SEOIGHE
Róisín Seoighe is from Connemara, an excellent singer, this is what she had to say to us recently when we met her while she was preparing for the project:
When did you become interested in Taylor Swift ?
I have been interested in Taylor Swift for a long time, since I was a young girl I was very fond of her work. I wasn't eight years old when her first big hit Love Story & You Belong With Me came out, & I was a fan then as well.
What preparations have you made/will make for 'The Taylor Swift Project' show?
I am working on the lyrics of this proposal with Gabriel Rosenstock. Gabriel originally wrote the translations and I'm putting my own spin on them & adding some newly composed lyrics to the songs, too. It is a very interesting & rewarding process. It's a great experience in terms of writing and composition, you always want to stay true to the English lyrics. In terms of music, I'm working with Cian & Niall on the music & Karl Odlum himself will be working on putting the tracks together for the project.. We might also have a few guest acts.. Who knows! A lot has been done but a lot remains to be done too.
Name one song you will be sure to sing at the show?
Folklore. There will be Invisible String, Willow, No Body No Crime
Were you at the Taylor Swift concert earlier this year?
The first concert I was at was the 1989 World Tour in the Three Arena and at her Reputation concert in Croke Park 2018. I didn't have the opportunity to go to the Eras tour but we will be drawing from that tour for inspiration for Taylor Swift proposal
Have you had any other show/gig before with Imlé?
I have been working with Imlé since 2019 on various projects, translating, composing songs etc
I know that you sing seannós songs and also that you compose songs but what genres of music do you prefer?
I love all kinds of Indie/Folk/Rock music and definitely old fashioned. Some of these musical styles can be recognized in the songs by Imlé, the old style can also be felt in the singing. I love Sarah Ghrialias & in terms of Rock I love Liam Gallagher.. I didn't get tickets for the Oasis concert unfortunately but tickets are still on sale for the 'Taylor Swift Project'. So take the opportunity!
